1. Look where you want to go.
2. Cover the brake lever.
3. Concentrate on the front brake lever.
4. Be progressive - use staged braking.
5. Look for an escape route.
6. Brake early rather than late.
7. Watch your road surface, slope, loose gravel and camber.
8. Know what's behind you.
9. Practice - Practice - Practice, and get to know the sounds and sensations of emergency braking.
10. Maintain your brakes - brake pads -levers, lines and brake fluid - to keep them in top condition.

Interesting...I thought riding on the gravel...NO FRONT BRAKE LEVER...Said Gus at the Octagon Table, Te Horo Cafe...
